Food as Medicine 3.0 Site Visit with Feeding America

Food as Medicine 3.0 Site Visit with Feeding America
June 11-13, 2025 • New York City area

Attendees: Research Scientist Dr. Eliza Short, Research Associate Gabi Talavera, and Project Manager Clare Milburn Atkinson.

Overview: Members of the CNHI Food as Medicine 3.0 (FAM3) project team along with the Feeding America team visited 3 food banks—Food Bank for NYC, Feeding Westchester, and Island Harvest—as well as their health care partners in the NYC area.

The trip highlighted how food banks and clinics are working hand in hand to make healthy food and nutrition education more accessible. From touring food pantries like Trinity Human Services and Catholic Health Services of Long Island, to sitting in on a nutrition education class at Greenburgh Health Center, the group saw how community organizations are expanding the role of food within health care.
