Food Story

Schrag grew up in a small rural town where she walked almost everywhere with her family—the bank, the local grocery store, school and friends’ houses—surrounded by farming communities and the rhythms of local growing seasons. Schrag recalls one of her earliest food memories planting seeds in the backyard garden with her dad and, in the summer, tasting fresh green onion for the first time on a plate of scrambled eggs. That moment sparked a lifelong appreciation for the effort and care behind fresh produce, especially in rural communities where gardens and local markets are lifelines.
