Food Story

Growing up in Pennsylvania, Long’s family emphasized the importance of food as a way of bringing people together. Whether it was cooking traditional Slovak family recipes with her Grammy, enjoying food grown on her grandfather's farm, or visiting the restaurants where her brother worked as a chef, these experiences shaped her understanding of food. After spending time in Philadelphia working with youth experiencing food insecurity, she decided to focus her career on supporting programs and policies that improve food access for low-income and underserved communities. For her, cooking and sharing a meal are often special experiences shared with loved ones, and Long is passionate about working to ensure, through secure and equitable access to food, that everyone can enjoy these privileges.
