Food Story
Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, food was always closely tied to family, culture, and connection. Some of Dorancy’s favorite memories involved gathering around meals with her family, whether during everyday dinners or special occasions. As she grew older and worked in community health and research, Dorancy began to understand food beyond culture and enjoyment – she saw how access to healthy foods, neighborhood environments, and broader social factors can shape health outcomes and quality of life. That strengthened her interest in research focused on health equity and understanding how systems can better support communities.
