Evaluation of the Shipped Medically Tailored Meals Pilot Project
Medically tailored meals are designed to meet the nutritional needs of individuals and have been shown to reduce healthcare expenditures and hospitalizations. Medically tailored providers have various ways to make the meals accessible for all. Shipped meals are a new strategy for Mama's Kitchen, a medically tailored meal provider in San Diego, California. CNHI evaluated the medically tailored meal pilot program through client outcomes and staff perceptions. This mixed methods evaluation included pre- and post-surveys with clients and interviews with staff.
The study findings were used to develop a report and manuscript for peer-review on client outcomes and staff perceptions. Medically tailored meal providers and collaborators could use this model to evaluate pilot programs before scaling up.
